【摘要】:ThispartofISO/IEC9318describesthelogicallevel(genericlevel)interfacefortapedrivesanditprovidesadefinitionofthedevice-genericportionofafamilyofstandardscalledtheIntelligentPeripheralInterface(IPI).Thepurposeofthisstandardistofacilitatethedevelopmentandutilizationofanintelligentinterfacewhichpermitstheinterconnectionofmultipleperipheraltypessuchasdisk,tapeandcommunicationstoacontroller.TheintentoftheIPIistoisolatethehost(CPU),bothhardwareandsoftware,fromchangesinperipheralsbyprovidinga"function-generic"commandsettoallowtheconnectionofmultipletypesofperipherals(disks,printers,tapes,communications).Tosmooththetransitionfromthecurrentmethodstothegenericapproach,theIPIsupportsdevice-specificcommandsetstoaidinbridgingthegapbetweenthetwoapproaches.Toaccomplishthissetofgoals,thedesignoftheIPIincludesdevice-specificanddevice-genericcommandsets.Thedevice-specificcommandsetprovides:-device-orientedcontrol;-physicaldataaddressing;-timingcriticaloperations;-lowerdevicecost.Thedevice-genericcommandsetprovidesahigherleveloffunctionalityandportability.Itincludes:-host/deviceindependence;-logicaldataaddressing;-timingindependence;-commandqueuingcapability.Asystemisnotrestrictedtotheuseofonelevelofcommandsetortheother.Itispossiblethatbothlevelsofcommandsetswillbeutilizedwithagivensystem'sarchitecturetobalancesuchparametersassystemperformance,costandperipheralavailability.Itisalsopossibleforthehosttoprovideforthemigrationfromdevice-specifictodevice-genericlevelswhilestillretainingthesamephysicalinterface.TheIPIstandardsfamilyincludesthedefinitionofahighperformance,general-purposeparallelperipheralinterface.However,thedevice-genericcommandsetmayalsobetransportedoverothernon-IPIphysicalinterfaces.ANSIX3.291:1997contains"mappings"totheHigh-PerformanceParallelInterface(HIPPI)andFibreChannel(FC)aswellastotheIPIEnhancedPhysicalInterface.The"mappings"arenotcontainedinthisdocument.
